The Midnight Raid

Even Paul Revere would have been amazed at Sunday night's "midnight ride" in which numerous Stop Double Dippers in Rensselaer County signs were stolen in North Greenbush. At least six were taken off of locations in town including one brazen theft off a front lawn of a town resident.

Now let's see, can you think of anyone who might have had a motive to steal signs that bear no one's name, few people at this point in time recognize as an issue and which affect the pockets of only one town resident with a desire to grab two public paychecks?

We couldn't either! Nope, the name of a suspect never entered our minds. Besides, who would be that stupid and reckless, especially if they got caught by one of those cheap high tech devices that activate on motion and take pretty clear pictures of the specified target area. Nope just ain't worth it, especially if your a public figure with a sorted past and criminal record to go with it.

So we'll be keeping an eye out for the Great North Greenbush Sign Burglar and encourage all of you to do the same and if you happen to be lucky enough to snap a picture of the thief in action, send it to us here. We'll make you and the thief famous!

The Public Hearing on the Double Dipper Law is tonight at 5:30 at the Rensselaer County Legislature. There are three very hungry county legislators demanding its passage so they can double dip and get themselves two public paychecks, two shots at the State Retirement System with extra hours reported for a fatter pension and more power!

If you're too busy to go down and speak, you'll get a chance to comment in November when the hungry GOP trio asks for your vote to put them back on town boards in North and East Greenbush.

The Troy Record has an article on the Double Dip Law on the County Legislature's agenda this evening which you can read here. It was also the subject of the Record's Talespin Column yesterday.

You can also read this press release from the North Greenbush Democratic Committee.
