As the campaign ends, we picked this ad from this week’s Advertiser as one of the best. It was provided to us as an early preview of the edition which can be found at retail outlets in town beginning today. Your home delivery may be Friday or Saturday.
We borrowed the cartoon in an earlier edition of the Pipeline but we did not want to spoil the surprise and “big picture” presented by the ad as a whole. Dancing with Wolves might be one way to describe this Fox Trot with Mark Evers and his Dancing Partner Developer who was probably one of many standing in line waiting to cut in. Nice accompaniment provided by the string section of Spain, Casale and Desso! Sorry if our scan fails to capture the likeness of Evers face but trust us when we say he is "winking" at his dance partner!
When you read the record of Evers it’s pretty clear why they are suddenly spending oodles of those still secret campaign contributions from his slates fund raiser which they have failed to account for as required by law in a filing due October 26th. The money is being spent on huge signs on three of their six candidates. Sorry Katie, Kyran and Mr. Carey, this crew is only interested in saving town government for the developers and contractors including Casale Excavating whose overspent and mismanaged contract in Water District 14 is still incomplete with a voracious desire for more of our money to finish the job. That’s why JR Casale was personally putting up those mega monster signs all over town. We are a little puzzled by the owner of the driving range allowing his land to be used by this crew since Evers wants a road put right down the middle of his property. More than likely he was bamboozled by some slippery double talk that placed support for that nutty proposal on their opponents who have nothing to do with it. All part of the bait and switch game in town.
Metroland
Be sure to check out metroland.net later today as their online edition becomes available around noon. It is said to be a full feature on North Greenbush and has many politicos on edge. This is the only publication in the Capital District that has the space to devote to the big issues affecting the many communities it serves. Over the years they have had some gifted writers like Amy Poe and Mike Goudreau who grasped complicated issues and explained them with ease and clarity. Their current writer Chet Hardin appears to fill their shoes with the same tradition of tell it like it is journalism.
North Greenbush makes the NYSDC Dispatch
It’s a news update affecting the Democratic Party from all over the State and this week’s edition included these two snippets from North Greenbush.
DESPITE DEM-GOP DIVIDE, MANY HOPEFULS BACKED BY BOTH
Albany Times Union - The two major political parties are split on issues from abortion to the war in Iraq and from gay marriage to how to deal with illegal immigrants. But they both like the way Gary Salisbury keeps the roads of Knox clear. The town highway superintendent is one of 41 candidates in six counties who manage to bridge the chasm between Republicans and Democrats and win both major party lines on the Nov. 6 ballot. http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=634478&category=REGION&newsdate=10/30/2007
NORTH GREENBUSH (Albany Times Union) - The incumbent supervisor's political challenger alleges that the town leader hid a more than $300,000 town deficit in order to craft an election year town budget that may show a slight tax decrease. Joshua Sabo, the current town attorney who is running for supervisor on the Greenbush Party line, says Conservative Supervisor Mark Evers' budget is illegal. http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=634516&category=REGION&newsdate=10/30/2007
Sorry Mr. Spain and your Republican endorsed slate on the hijacked Democratic Party line. But your sell out of the Democratic Party to the GOP is catching the attention of the State Democratic Committee as well.
Where’s my Bumper sticker?
That’s the question many are asking of Lou Cotrona, the now defunct “Citizen’s Club founder with Lou Desso whose car was spotted yesterday morning on I-90 with a Desso and Spain sticker but no Evers sticker. We recall that Cotrona lost the Dem nod to Evers in 2005 which in hindsight may have been a mistake. Cotrona at least was a Democrat and it’s doubtful he would have violated the laws and lied the way Evers has done for the past two years. So we don’t blame you for refusing to promote Evers on your car. Lou can hold his nose, close his eyes and vote for Evers or he can move those fingers down to Row F and tell him later how sorry you are about the results.
Late Financial Disclosure Reports

Kyran Devery
Today is Day 110 for the North Greenbush Democratic Committee violation of State Election Law requiring the on line filing of a Financial Disclosure Report due July 15, 2007. They are also 27 days late on a 32 Day Pre General filing due October 5th and 6 days late filing their October 26th 11 Day Pre General Report. The Board of Elections has sent them another letter attempting to get them to file as required by law. They have completely IGNORED those letters and apparently blame others for their actions. Laws apparently don’t apply to the “reformed” democrats under Jeff Spain and his Treasurer, Tax Collector Kyran Devery. If he does the town job the way he does his political job of party treasurer, time for a change!
