Happy New Year!

As always in North Greenbush and Rensselaer County, a new year brings the best fiction to reality on the political stag and 2013 promises some great chapters. Republicans are dressing up Lou Desso as a "medical professional" to give him a $80,000 job as Deputy Commissioner of Mental Health. You might even be envisioning him in a "white coat" running around the county building. None the less, his lack of credentials in the health care field or even a college degree make the appointment a bit scary.

The job will give him some badly needed rest from the 60 hours a week he's been reporting to the State Retirement System from holding two part time elective jobs and his full time private sector job. The three jobs together took up 100 hours out of a 120 hour 5 day work week, leaving Desso with only 20 hours to sleep and eat.

Not to be outdone, the rumor mill says his town board college, Kelly Hoffman, is being pushed to replace Desso in the Legislature. If she stays on the town board, she could be the one reporting 60 hours a week to the State Retirement System while holding a full time job. Ouch!

Even better, her board seat is up for re re-lection this year meaning that if she is chosen to replace Desso and tries to keep her town board seat, she would be running to for two elective offices at the same time this November.

You can't make this stuff up folks! But it keeps things lively around here.

Have a happy and safe new year!
