Evers Pays Up

It's been more than a year since Mark Evers managed to fire a licensed Professional Engineer to run the Building Department, it's unionized employees and administer the Water 14 contract. It took Evers 6 days to fire him, a truly competent professional who would have put the brakes on Evers ability to pay his Conservative contractor who holds the blank check contract where bid prices are "supposed prices".

This month the US Navy veteran and Annapolis graduate who also hold a Masters in Engineering, was finally paid for the six days of work he did for North Greenbush. Evers had been refusing to pay him. Even after allowing this man to give two weeks notice to his previous employer to come here in good faith to work for our town, Mark Evers waited until he started work, gave up his prior health insurance and then used his political pals at the County Civil Service Commission to declare him ineligible to be a town engineer. A 30 year old outdated job description which failed to state even what kind of degree was cited by a commission hack to allow Evers to fire him. You can read the job description here and a prior post detailing the mess here.
.
The description was lambasted by a State Civil Service representative as outdated and unenforceable. You can read his email here. That didn't stop these birds from declaring him unqualified. Apparently these political hacks in Rensselaer County feel they have the authority to ignore a license issued by the State to engage in engineering as a profession. Their so called job description required a "degree in civil engineering" and never said what kind, Associates, Bachelors, Masters etc.
.
That was enough for Evers to put the screws to him. A navy veteran, who served his country only to come home and run into Mark Evers. With Memorial Day approaching, take note of Mr. Evers respect for those who have served their country. Mr. Caola got his thanks more than a year late, most likely after having to put Evers in a corner. His thanks, $1,717.54 for 6 days work.
.
"The Blame Game"

Metroland's coverage of North Greenbush has been outstanding and has intensified with this on line expose of the "he said, he said" game over Water District 14 and the State Audit which assigns responsibility to various parties in town government. You can read today's early edition here.
.
We especially love Metroland's inclusion of the Spain- Desso press release and its double talk on the need for new audits of town finances for 2006 and 2007 to see if the former board majority, not the CEO, Mark Evers, screwed up other town finances besides the water district. Gee at the last two board meetings, didn't Al Spain categorical deny his support for these audits had anything to do with the state audit? Which Al Spain should we believe, verbal Spain or printed Spain?

It's fun to dissect the logic, for lack of a better word, in the pair's insistence that the former Board Majority gets all the blame in the audit with Evers, presumably watching from the town beach. Let's see, would the Majority vote for an audit and investigation they thought would place all the blame on them? And would Evers and Kern vote against the audit because they knew they had done nothing wrong, welcomed the scrutiny and knew it would lay all the blame on their adversaries? Good logic Al and Lou! And boys, before you pound the former comptroller for signing the $400,000 check for Application 14 in April 2006, better ask Mr. Evers why HIS office gave that check to Casle before Evers signed it. You're gonna look foolish.
.
We are also amused by their efforts to blame their nemesis, CB as the cause of all the deficiencies found in the State audit, despite the fact that his name is NEVER mentioned in the document. CB gets the blame or credit depending on one's agenda, for just about everything imaginable, from this blog to being the ghost writer for everyone in Capital Land, to even the findings of the audit of Water District 14. So let's add one more credit, yes, CB, the perfect cover for all things, wrote the audit! What a powerful guy!

Rensselaer County civil service always seems to be playing a behind- the-scenes part in the problems in this town. Maybe someone should look into this department. Doesn't the State have any control over what they do?
