Media Focuses on Comprehensive Plan Misteps

It did not take long for the news media to understand the importance of the Comprehensive Plan to North Greenbush and the newly re-energized efforts of this blank check development majority to prevent its adoption.

Today's Troy Record has an article that begins to explore the failure of the new Board to adopt the completed project which was provided to the town after two years of PUBLIC INPUT, more than 36 meetiongs and $52,000 from Rensselaer County. You can read the article here.

The Comrehensive Plan Commitee's Chairman for the past two years, guiding it to completion said it best. “I do not understand why they are still working on this,” said Richard Fennelly, former Councilman. “We submitted a very complete document last year.”

For that reason, Fennelly declined to continue serving as Chairman, simpoly vecause the work is done. That did not stop the new majority to carry on the efforts of Mark Evers to stop it from being adopted for reasons most find hard to imagine.

The article also points out that the prior commitee was selected to ensure that the entire town was represented in the porcess. The so called new commitee consists of a developer and defeated candidate for highway superintendent and several political allies, including the sister of Councilman Spain, as well as members of political commitees. There are only 3 people who were on the prior commmitee including the county's representative who served "Ex Officio" and provided valuable guidance. There remains little of the institutional knowledge of the prior committee which was shelved for what appears to be spite.

Now the professional planners will no longer attend the meetings since tehre work is done. Their presense and input was critical top the fine tuning and changes in the final months. It's a sad state of affairs to see this effort being destroyed to benifit developers who were the prime source of funding for this new majority's campaign.
