From the Caves come the Floggers!

It’s a rare and crippling combination, possessing the qualities of arrogance and ignorance and in such capacities as to forfeit any claim to legitimate cognitive powers. That best describes the events at the attempted flogging of Rensselaer County Democratic Committee members Daniel Ashley and C.B. Smith.

The gang of nine, any one of which could star in their own Geico commercial, read their list of creative charges and then wished Smith and Ashley into their own universe of politically deceased cave dwellers. Their mentor and apparent chest pounder in the black op was none other than that standard bearer of modern English prose, F. James Germano.

Yes, Germano is indeed back and directing the operations of the “reformed” Democrats. They proudly provided a full three page letter from Germano,(no that’s not a misprint, there were three pages of words, including multi syllables and semicolons) in which Germano urged his loyal clan to declare Ashley and Smith politically disappeared and off the County Committee. Yes, it’s out of the caves and into the sunlight! The letter which is a side splitter for anyone who followed Germano’s political career and indictment with Henry Zwack and company, accuses County Chairman Thomas Wade of attacking god, church and democracy for warning the renegade committee that they had no authority to remove any county committee member and they risked sanction by the County Committee if they proceeded.

Better yet, the verbally challenged Germano accused Wade of having CB as his “ghostwriter”, which must have been a tough type for the ghostwriter who penned the portly prose for Germano. A realistic portrayal of the Germano prose cannot be posted here on the Pipeline since discussions of the human anatomy lack appropriate decorum. His agenda is rumored to include making a member of the family town police chief.

Now it’s time to wait and see what Chairman Wade does in reaction to this challenge to his leadership and the authority of the County Committee he heads.

GOP Celebrates.

On the same night that Democrats were busy destroying themselves and their legitimacy, town Republicans were looking forward with optimism at the American Legion. Their fundraiser included Mark Evers and Lou Desso, but the real news comes from three fine candidates rumored to be running this fall. They include Wes Marshall, Stephanie Piel, (we apologize if we spelled the name wrong, and a potential candidate for town clerk, whose name we missed in the conversation. It was unclear which of the candidates would run for Supervisor, but an official announcement will come soon from Town Chair Vince Sculco.

With the Democratic Town Clerk busy eradicating her own political support within her party through illegal purges, it is unclear whether Mr. Germano’s support will be enough to stem the tide from Democrat to Republican. Germano’s endorsement is sure to add another 25% to the vote count and better yet, his declaration to Clerk Connolly, Tax Collector Devery and the rest of the inquisitors that “your vote tonight to remove Ashley and Smith as committee members will help end a dark chapter in our party’s history, and moving the Democratic organization back into the sunlight.”

Pretty good for a Geico commercial, hey?

With all the bad news reported, I hope people don't lose sight of the good news. I'm encouraged by the fact that the Republicans have candidates to offer this year. We need a new town clerk. Sometimes people just stay in office too long and become so arrogant that they stop doing their job. Hope they have a candidate for tax collector, we need a clean sweep.

"Let the names of Ashley/Smith be stricken from every book and tablet, stricken from all pylons and obelisks, stricken from every monument of NGB. Let the name of Ashley/Smith be unheard and unspoken, erased from the memory of men for all time. So let it be written, so let it be done.
