Democrats Criticize One of Their Own

For some time now there has been tension between members of the town's Democratic Committee and Councilwoman Mary Frances Sabo. One of the major points of conflict arose out her decision to vote with Republicans on the Town Board to slash the salary of the newly elected Town Clerk.

Not only do they view the vote as an act of disloyalty, but also a vote that lacks justification on any level of decency and fair play. Today's Sand Lake Advertiser finds the tension becoming very public as the party chairman, Dan Ashley, outlines Sabo's actions and seeks corrective action. You can read his letter here on Page 20.

Mrs. Sabo has decided that party loyalty to her is a prerequisite for members of the town Democratic Committee. At a meeting of that committee held earlier this year, the anger erupted with person after person challenging her vote to slash the town clerk's salary by $20,000. She was also castigated for signing the Designating Petition for a Democratic Primary for the Republican endorsed candidate for Town Clerk, Katie Connolly. She did not sign the Designating Petition of the party nominee for town clerk, Janice Kerwin. Apparently party loyalty is a one way street.

Consequently Mrs. Sabo has launched an effort to take over the Democratic Committee, turning it into a fan club for herself and her policies. Today's Advertiser article is the first of many salvos that will immeasurable alter the public image Mrs. Sabo has tried to cultivate in monthly columns in the Advertiser and on social media.

We have access to what is still to come and today's letter pales in comparison to the ethics issues soon to be made public.
