It’s always entertaining to read the letters of political operatives as they test the waters for their respective parties. When one of those operatives is a North Greenbush pol, they have a chance of making it in this publication.
Conservative Committee Woman Judith Wos is no stranger to controversy or political letters. Whether from her peculiar brand of crayons or those of GOP masters in the County Office Building, Wos has a way of coloring facts to the point where they bear no resemblance to reality.
Yesterday, we were treated to her prose in the Record. In case you missed it, we have a link provided for you here. Her targets this time are two Democratic County Legislators, one in her district and the other, well, we have to wonder whether she really needs to know how to spell her name.
Their supposed sin is a desire to increase spending during a recession by promoting tourism. Imagine that, Wos sees no benefit to tourism, the money tourists spend in hotels, theaters, restaurants, retail stores, the last of which she claims to want in her home district of DeFreestville. We suppose too she sees no benefit to the private sector jobs tourism spending creates in a local economy. This lack of cognitive insight may explain why Wos always seems to be looking for a political appointment and payroll and North Greenbush residents have been the beneficiaries of those services.
Figures released by the State argue that approximately $7.00 is returned to the economy for every dollar invested in tourism. We trust Ms. Wos did not support all those “I Love NY” ads deemed to bring tourism and dollars to New York’s economy. Yet she never complained, maybe because for 12 years her Republican Governor, George Pataki used the State funded ads to promote himself as well as the tourism.
Now things are different. Ms. Wos thinks it’s a mistake to spend more money promoting tourism because Democrats support it. Unstated in her letter was that those advocating more for tourism did so by simply advocating that existing revenue streams from the county’s bed tax be dedicated to tourism rather than finding their way into the General Fund where they can be used to pay for pay raises for elected officials and big political salaries for those who write these letters for people like Wos.
Case in point, the $89,000 in county funds used to pay for the salary of Richard Crist in the GOP’s Majority Office. Mr. Crist writes all the letters and press releases for Republican legislators like Martin Reed, Alex Shannon and would be candidates for the coming election. He also runs a political consulting business called Victory Lane which is under investigation by a Special Prosecutor for operating with county staff and equipment right out of the Majority Office.
Well, we know why that was not a part of her letter. Instead she rattled off untruths about people being “illegally fired” in North Greenbush. Funny, she didn’t back that story up with a court decision or proof. That’s because the claim is false and that may explain why no county legislator from either party bothered to make hay of it.
Maybe Ms. Wos needs to find some purpose in her new town job which was recreated by the Republicratic Majority in town hall despite failing to require her to sign a release from her specious legal claim against the town for her dismissal from her first political job. Might we suggest she put down the crayons and pick up a paint brush, the new purpose given to her political counterpart, Democratic Vice Chairman Ed Cassino, who the Republicrats hired as another patronage plum. So far they have managed to justify his appointment by having him paint the walls in town hall.
By the way, did anybody find that box of unprocessed water bills and get them done after the last town job?

Don't forget about the box of checks for the Planning Board.
People tend to forget things they Don't WANT to remember. I personally sat at Route 4 headquarters on that fated Election Eve when Rich Crist was signing a stack of absentee ballots- saying we WILL win one way or another. Who else was there- Leon Fiacco, Lou Desso, Bob Ashe. Witnesses you ask? My kids were there too- making phone calls. They still talk about it. That is why they now are turned off to Politics as we know it here in NG. Don't believe me- meet me at the DA's office and let's ALL take a polygraph. Then- the truth will FINALLY have been told.
