Town Board Meets Thursday

Another so called workshop meeting takes place tomorrow night with the agenda available on the town web site.

We bring this to your attention because once again there is a vagueness designed to prevent informed public comment, should any be allowed. Since there are three possible action items, comment should be allowed on those items and without knowing who the potential appointees are, it is difficult to say anything for or against the appointees.

This was certainly the case when they Evers majority failed to list the names of two controversial attorneys at the January meeting. One with a criminal record and the other removed from the bench for misconduct by the State’s highest Court. Neither are town residents. The public could not comment on these issues because the board refused to disclose their names before they voted.

While the two groups on the agenda are volunteers to serve on two committees, Utilities and Highway, it would be in the spirit of open government to publish the names of any appointee prior to the meeting to permit intelligent public comment.

Also, there is a FOIL appeal on the agenda with no explanation as to the content on the agenda. It lists a possible executive session which seems outside the boundaries of the limitations imposed by the State’s Open Meetings Law for content of Executive Sessions. We’ll have to stay tuned on this one.

The agenda can be accessed at townofng.com.
