This is a short update on the first meeting of the new Comprehensive Plan Committee meeting which took place last night.
Our sources say that it was constructive with the three prior members able to answer questions and concerns presented about the final document left unapproved by the new town board after the prior majority failed to approve the document last December.
You may recall the reason for the failure to approve was the absense of one majority board member and Evers and Kern voting against approval creating a 2-2 tie. Evers then ignored the law by refusing a request by two board members to hold a special meeting within 10 days so the full board could vote and approve the plan.
Since that time a new committee was created, the old committee dissolved and only three prior members retained on the new committee.
The first meeting was apparently a call for all to read the document which has been on line since December. Prior members pointed out that this is a document that can be amended as needed and that it should be viewed broadly rather than with a microscope.
Most of the concerns seemed negligible when considered in the broad scope as opposed to the next step in the process which should be close examination and revision of the town's outdated zoning code. That code would be updated as part of the process and the town could receive more county funding to retain a consultant who would conform the zoning code to the proposed plan giving the town a badly needed update.
We will keep you informed and the next meeting is scheduled for April 15th at 7PM.
