Thumbs Down to Jack Casey’s Picks

It didn’t take long for Jack Casey to learn that supporting Mark Evers gets you a slap in the face a day later. Casey is the County GOP Chairman and he asked Evers to appoint two GOP attorneys to the town payroll.

The first was former Troy judge and current Troy Councilman Hank Bauer. Sorry said the Supervisor, strike one.

The second request was the current 1st Assistant DA under Patricia DeAngelus, Joe Ahern. Again the Supervisor refused, strike two.

That left Casey befuddled and the GOP with nothing in return for their endorsement of the “Democratic” slate supported by town Democratic Chairman Jeff Spain. Spain’s choice for a town attorney spot will obviously be election law attorney Josh Ehrlich. But Ehrlich does not live in the county and such an appointment requires that he at least live in the county. So nothing for Spain and his so called band of Democrats.

Naturally, the GOP is unhappy but let’s face it, they were warned by their own party loyalists that this would happen. Evers tells people what he thinks they want to hear to get support and then pulls the hammer.

Incidentally, Casey was able to place Ahern in another job in the county office building as a conflicts resolution attorney. Stay tuned as the Pipeline uncovers the rest of the Oscar nominees for 2008.
