Swearing in Ceremonies

Some of the winners have announced their swearing in ceremonies and here is what we have so far.

Joseph Teresi, elected to Sate Supreme Court, will hold his swearing in ceremony Thursday, December 27th at 11:00 am in the Assembly Chambers, 3rd floor of the Capitol building. He will be sworn in with Michael Breslin, Albany County Executive. A reception will follow in the Assembly.

George B. Ceresia, also re-elected to State Supreme Court, will hold his swearing in at the Rensselaer County Court House on Friday, December 28th at noon. A reception will follow.

Both men serve the judicial district which includes North Greenbush and Rensselaer County.

Richard McNally, elected as Rensselaer County District Attorney will be sworn in on New Year’s Day at the Atrium in Troy. A reception will follow.

Comprehensive Plan Public Hearing

Tonight at 7PM, the Town Board will hold a Public Hearing on the Final Draft of the Comprehensive Plan. Supervisor Evers and his allies are trying to stop its passage using allies on the Town's Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals to attempt to place roadblocks in the way of its adoption. As we noted previously, the PlanningBoard voted 4-2 to make itself lead agency in SEQR even after the Town Board, its appointing authority, had first voted to designate itself lead agency. The ZBA vote failed to do the same for the ZBA.

Tonight the public and the dog and pony opponents, will have their say. All is not perfect. Many in DeFreestville are unhappy with a decision by the Commitee to make the other side of 4 and 43 more commercial which is what the developers who purchased that land want. That would permit another big box struture across the street from the Van Rensselaer Square Mall which is under construction.

Regardless of its imperfection, the document was two years in the making, was paid for entirely by Rensselaer County and offers the best chance the town has ever had to geta handle on developers and our own future.

So whatever you feel, come and speak. The volunteers who worked on this deserve MUCH credit and thanks. It is on line at the town web site, townofng.com .
