Post Election Raises In Troy May Have Ripple Effect
Well it appears the mayor of Troy has the same guts that the Republicans in the County Legislature have. Mayor Tuntunjian waited until he won the election to try and grab a pay raise for himself and some staffers they didn’t have the guts to tell voters about when they announced their 2008 budget. The mayor wants $10,000 a year which is 12% and selected staffers, a 3.5% raise retroactive to Januray.
Unfortunately for the mayor and staffers like the City Attorney David Mitchell, Robert Mirch who is Public Works Commissioner, the Personnel Director, our own Al Spain, Democrats, REAL Democrats will hold the purse strings on the City Council in January. The will also hold a veto proof majority with 6 of 9 votes on the council.Mirch, incidentally would see a $10,000 hike with the two raises which we presume if $5,000 from the retroactive provision and the sme going forward in 2008.
That could mean some big cuts in pay rather than salary increases and outright elimination of some duplicitous jobs. Gee isn’t a so called Democrat on the County Civil Service Commission employed by the GOP in the City Clerk’s Office?
Troy City Democratic Chairman Frank LaPosta is wasting no time opposing the GOP pay raise plans. He is rumored to be issuing a press release this week putting his party on record opposing the move. We’ll keep on top the events as they occur.
