McNally Lead Holds after 3 GOP Towns are Counted

Remember the 2000 preseidential election that just seemed never to end after election day? Move over Al and George, Rich and Greg are taking your place! The race for Rensselaer County District Attorney continues to hold the status of breathtaking as election officials began counting absentee ballots today. Three traditionally Republican towns, Nassau, Grafton and Petersburg, were counted yesterday and McNally held his ground splitting the paper ballots with Cholakis. At press time yesterday afternoon, 8 of the 10 Schodack election district ballots were counted and Cholakis picked up only 10 votes in this normally GOP bastion. It was a net gain for Cholakis of 11 for the day which by our counts leaves McNally with a 191 vote lead.

For those of you wondering what happened in North Greenbush with this race, the unofficial machine counts show Cholakis with 1724 and McNally with 1644, a difference of 80 votes.

McNally gathered 1212 on the Democratic Line and 432 on Working Families. Cholakis received 1175 on the Republican line and 225 and 324 in the Independence and Conservative lines respectively.

We believe that 80 vote margin can be chalked up to the so called reform democrats who supported the Republican slate for Supervisor, Council and Highway Superintendent. Word is they were angry over introductions of candidates present at the Democratic fundraiser of which nearly all of the reform candidates and party committee seat holders boycotted.

McNally read a list of candidates given to him which included DEMOCRATS running for Supervisor and Council. He also recognized Mark Evers, the GOP candidate who was endorsed by the PRO GOP Town Democratic Chairman Jeff Spain. The “reformers” were angered by the recognition and campaigned actively against McNally, even urging readers of their alternative blog to support Cholakis. Talk about a lose, lose situation!

As we have said before, these are excellent candidates and both would do an excellent job as district attorney. We will keep you posted.

I hope Jack Casey and Joe Bruno know it is only a matter of time before they lose all the power. McNally winning this race is the warning shot for them. All County republicans should worry that they will lose future races because of the rotten deeds of these two men, selling their own party down the river.

Sweeney won't be getting involved with this one ala: Gore/Bush though, as he can't drive to the board of elections! Har!
