The candidates for town office on the Greenbush Party, ROW F, in this November’s election, are demanding Town Supervisor Mark Evers and his running mates, Louis Desso and Al Spain return the illegal campaign contributions they received last night at a fundraiser held at the Troy Elks Club.
Referencing a fund raising letter the candidates sent using the Supervisor’s secretary as an illegal conduit for sending contributions by mail, Supervisor candidate Josh Sabo affirmed that these candidates failed to register their committee dubbed “Bringing North Greenbush Together”, with the Board of Elections as required by State Election Law. "These acts are part of a pattern and practice of illegally hiding from public view the money and donors these candidates have solicited on their behalf."
Council Candidates Wes Marshall and Josephine Ashworth agreed noting that the rules to protect the public from illegal campaign contribution are being ignored by these candidates. They stated their belief that the bulk of their financial support is coming from developers and contractors with much likely coming from the Supervisor’s political benefactor, the Conservative Chairman, Michael Casale, whose company is seeking more money for its overspent contract in Water District 14.
The candidates called on the Rensselaer County District Attorney to enforce this serious breach of State Election Law noting that there exists the potential for fraud on a substantial scale as a result of this conduct. They also called on their opponents to refund all money unlawfully received at this event and to make public the names of all donors in excess of $100.

Bonded Concrete's Late Payday

Imagine a Planning Board member whose husband owns a company that sells concrete who votes to approve a project that her husband's company later cashes in on with concrete sales. Well, Linda Mandell Clemente, the controversial former light fingered town attorney got herself appointed to the town Planning Board in the final days of her tenure in 2005 with one of the three Board votes coming from Bonded employee, Councilman Bob Ashe. Less than a month later she votes to approve the controversial site plan for Van Rensselaer Square Mall before she is forced off the Planning Board by a criminal prosecution surrounding her New Year's Day removal of town records which were tracked down and returned by town police.
Here we are a year and 10 months later and Mark Evers has replaced Bob Ashe as the developers best friend and Bonded Concrete trucks are pouring the concrete at the Mandell Clemete approved site, and without a Building Permit.
Hmm, guess that's ok when its a big time developer. The town board voted a couple months back to order the Building Department to issue no Building Permit to the develper until he paid his share of the GEIS fees the town paid in connection with the development. Of course developers friend Mark Evers and sidekick Ernie Kern voted No even though Evers 2006 town budget was balanced assuming receipt of this and other GEIS fees ($235,000 in all) the town never collected from developers.
Who cares about balanced budgets? Evers current budget prepared by the town clerk was prepared without any current budget to actual data meaning its pure fiction. Without knowing where you arer at the moment with revenues and expenditures, you can't prepare a budget for the following year. It's like being asked to balance a checking account without a list of the checks or deposits.
So we can't help but wonder how much money Mark Evers collected secretly from all those developers at his illegal fund raiser last night at the Elks? We wonder if the cash went into an unregistered campaign account or whether it went right into the pockets of the candidates? Without complying with Campaign Finance Disclosure Laws, the public won't know who gave, how much and why. That's why the IRS keeps a close eye on such reports since they offer the potential of unreported income to those receiving the funds. Taxes, taxes! If the money isn't recorded as campaign contributions, there will be a legal assumption that its a "payoff" or kickback. Mark, you'd better account for the money before you get visit from someone in a tailored suit.
Good Democrat
We love to see examples of Democrats showing their loyaty to the team. Al Spain shows it by endorsing the Republican candidate for Highway Superintendent, a Developer. He also shows with campaign cash and this $250 contribution on 10/21/07 reported as a donation to the Republican Mayor of Troy, (Al's boss) says a lot about Spain's true political color.
Sewer District Question Answered
It was learned today that the VRM Mall is in fact in a sewer district. For weeks town officials have kept other town officials in the dark.
Late Financial Disclosure Reports

Kyran Devery
Today is Day 104 for the North Greenbush Democratic Committee violation of State Election Law requiring the on line filing of a Financial Disclosure Report due July 15, 2007. They are also 21 days late on a 32 Day Pre General filing due October 5th.Laws apparently don’t apply to the “reformed” democrats under Jeff Spain and his Treasurer, Tax Collector Kyran Devery. The Rensselaer County BOE has sent Mr. Devery a letter with his second notice of being tardy. A THIRD report is due tomorrow. If he does the town job the way he does his political job of party treasurer, time for a change!
