To say the political style of reform Democrats Chairman Jeff Spain is to shoot first and ask questions later would be an understatement. The latest volley of this War of the Words was initiated by a bizarre letter sent by Spain to Democrats in and out of North Greenbush. It received an immediate return volley from Democrats who oppose him. You can decide who got leveled in the cross fire, but one thing’s for sure, Spain appears to behave as if he really is working for the county Republican’s and is on a mission to destroy any Democrats who get in his way. He has even made more friends throughout the county Democratic organization by suing the County Chairman, Thomas Wade in an effort to rescind the recently approved party bylaws. This is sure to anger the entire county committee which will have to spend precious resources fighting a fellow “democrat” rather than the opposition party. It should also anger town democrats who will question why campaign contributions are being squandered on a lawsuit against his own county party?
Caught in the crossfire are Spain’s adversaries, Dan Ashley and C.B.Smith whom he appears obsessed with and on the return volley, it’s Jeff Spain and his brother Al Spain Jr. who get slammed in a cute return volley that looks and sounds so close to the original, it gets high marks for ingenuity.
So without further comment, we offer you the Great North Greenbush War of the Words, which has now spread to Troy and Rensselaer County. It sure will be interesting to see how the Democrat’s County Chairman responds to Spain’s attacks and lawsuit which could include a county committee vote to completely dissolve the North Greenbush Democratic Committee which under Spain, has a majority doing the bidding of the Republican Party, suing his own party while backing the GOP town board slate.

We are privledged enough to live in a county with a Democracy. Yet, in all our local political parties we have abuse of the free system and individuals willing to stop at nothing to seek control and power.
The "new" Democrats expell anyone who doesn't play their game as if they are in a school yard. The Conservatives have been taken over by the very same developer/contractor money and the Republicans are pressured by Joe Bruno.
What a sad commentary on the character of many and what a disgrace to our founding fathers, past and present Veterans. We have people losing life and limb everyday in Iraq for another countries freedom and yet, individuals in our own town can't even respect and uphold our local political system.
Shame on all of you! Is this what you would teach your children about our government? Is this the legacy you want to leave behind?
I agree with the comment above. we need to elect qualified individuals who have NO ties to the "good old boy network", not the developers, not the county politicians and not THE JOE. We need candidates who are running because they actually care about where they live and raise their families. People who want to spend most of their lives here, and/or retire here. A community that cares about one another and not about what political party one belongs to. We don't have that now and we need strive for it. Vote for the people who strive for this goal and not for the same old politics as usual. Look for them, they are out there.
