Three Good Causes

From time to time we get requests from readers to post events on this site. Here are a few worth supporting.

On Saturday June 2nd, the four Rensselaer County Legislators representing North Greenbush along with Sand Lake Legislator Flora Fasoldt and Troy Legislator Peter Grimm are sponsoring a spaghetti supper to benefit our Iraq War Veterans. It runs from 5:30 to 7:30PM at the Sullivan Jones VFW Post in Poestenkill.
The flier enlarges if you click on and has all the details.

Suffice to say veterans and their families deserve our unconditional support, especially those who are healing from the wounds of war, both emotional and physical. This is something that Supervisor Evers and his friends at the County Civil Service Commission would do well to learn in view of the way they treated the Gulf War veteran the Town Board hired as Town Engineer only to be fired and rushed out of the building days later. Mr. Evers is even trying to prevent the town from suing to reinstate him having voted against retaining a law firm to file a lawsuit.

Another good cause is a Golf Day to benefit candidates who will seek the Democratic Party nomination to serve our community here in the Town of North Greenbush. Our Highway Superintendent Mark Premo is one of the Chairs of this event and we hope that Democrats manage to nominate a full slate of candidates who refuse to pledge their loyalty to any party chairman as a condition of receiving his support. The Democratic Party is bigger than any one individual and common sense values held by most people, regardless of political identity, confirm that individuals who would pledge allegiance to a party or an individual as a condition of support, is not worthy of holding a public office, or the support of the community. Details are again on the flier attached here, but note that the date has been changed to June 12th because of a scheduling conflict.

Finally, we believe yet another good cause may be found at the American Legion Post next Tuesday, May 22nd, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM when the Town Republican Committee holds a spring fundraiser. Tickets are $35.00 and the North Greenbush Pipeline has learned that Chairman Vice Sculco has been busy recruiting a slate of quality candidates to run for town offices. Neither he nor his committee have demanded loyalty oaths or pledges. Equally important, he has managed to learn a lesson from the past where development interests were allowed to run the party and the town causing much upheaval in the community. Ultimately the GOP was swept from office as a result, a lesson that apparently has fallen on deaf ears with some town Democrats who appear to be embracing developers the same way the GOP once did.

As for the Conservative Party, they are totally controlled by development interests beginning with the contractor in Water District 14 who runs the party and has aligned himself with the reform Democrats who barely control the Democratic Party Committee. Your money is better spent on fundraisers which will keep developers a safe distance from controlling policy and dispersing our money as Conservative Supervisor Evers did when he gave an illegal payout of $83,000 to Casale Excavating last December.
