Honoring a Real Hero
We pause to honor Trooper David Brinkerhoff and his family and to ask you to consider donating to the worthy charities established to help his infant daughter and family.
The New York State Police web site provides additional information on the funds established to help the family. A trust set up specifically to help his 7 month old daughter, Isabella Grace Brinkerhoff , will receive donations at any Trustco Bank branch or by sending a contribution to:
New York State Trooper Foundation
3 Airport Park Boulevard
Latham, NY 12110.
They ask that your checks be made payable to the Isabella Grace Brinkerhoff Trust.
Trooper Brinkerhoff called Coxsackie his home. Former North Greenbush resident and member of our police force, Bob Helwig is now the Chief of the Coxsackie Police Department and knew Trooper Brinkerhoff. Bob was interviewed by local television stations and brought home the high esteem with which the community held this young man.
Gov. Eliot Spitzer quoted President Abraham Lincoln's 1864 letter to the mother of five young men who died fighting for the Union Army. As with so much of President Lincoln's written legacy, the words have as much meaning today as during his life. "I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom."
Our sincere condolences to all his family and friends.

This was a special young man.It was a moving ceremony that reflected so well on his life.
It was good too see Bob Helwig on TV. His mother and father were foundations of our town and young Bob as well.I think he was a lieutenant on our PD.
