And the winner is...
The North Greenbush Pipeline loves political dinners. They tend to generate lots of whispers as to who wants to run for what. The town Republicans will be holding their dinner at the American Legion on June 2nd. They expect a large turnout thanks in part to the perception that corruption lurks from the soon to be disclosed audit from Water District 14 and the numerous controversies surrounding the Democratically backed Conservative Supervisor Mark Evers. The Supervisor is likely to be hammered for illegally giving out an $83,000 check to his Conservative pals in Casale Excavating. He could also find himself removed from office by courts before the election placing a large amount of egg squarely on the faces of the reform Democrats who might nominate him.
The town’s new Republican leader Vince Sculco is rumored to have politely distanced himself from those who ran on his party line in the 2005 election, including Louis Desso, who has now infiltrated the Democratic party in apparent hopes of being endorsed by the left instead of the right. Somehow it just doesn’t seem possible that a political party would endorse a convicted felon, but this is North Greenbush.
Mr. Desso was decked out in the candidate’s uniform at the Democratic dinner last Friday evening acting as if he were running for President.
Also at the dinner was Supervisor Mark Evers who before he even took office, deserted all of his Democratic Committee supporters who worked for his election. New Chairman Jeff Spain can expect to see Mr. Evers kiss his ring, and then do for him what he did for Mr. Ashley after he deceived the 2005 Democratic Committee and the good folks in DeFreestville regarding his support for a master plan and community supported development. Mr. Evers has turned out to be a man whose word has no value when it comes to getting what he wants. That’s the reason the Town GOP wants nothing to do with Mr. Evers. At least one chairman can read a playbook and avoid an interception!
Nevertheless, whispers from the donkey dinner say Mr. Evers will make Jeff Spain his next victim, gaining his support for the Democratic nomination while praying he doesn’t get booted before the election. Whispers also abound that Louis Desso will also have Spain’s support and give the Town Conservative Party, run lock, stock and barrel by Casale Excavating, a 3-2 majority if they were to win in November.
The third Spain candidate is likely to be Jack Rogers of Wynantskill. Mr. Rogers was a distinguished Troy Police Officer who has run for Sheriff twice and is perhaps the only one of the three who deserves consideration. His chances of winning would be greatly diminished by the presence of the two Conservatives on the ticket. We can’t help notice the irony of a good cop who spent his professional career arresting bad guys forced to run with a convicted felon. The North Greenbush Pipeline has been provided with a maze of newspaper clippings detailing numerous encounters with police blotters and visits to local jails.
It’s too early to say whether reason will overcome Mr. Spain or whether he will seek the input of his Democratic Committee which we pointed out, spent a great deal of energy and money defeating Mr. Desso and his blank check development gang in 2005. Score one for the Democrats on this point, but add two penalty shots for any misplaced support for Mr. Evers and Mr. Kern who have demonstrated they care more about keeping the money flowing to Casale Excavating than they do about campaign promises or personal integrity.
No word on whether Democratic Councilman Richard Fennelly will run again. Nor is there any change to report on Chairman Spain’s misguided and vengeful anger against Highway Superintendent Mark Premo whom he despises because he refuses to publicly repudiate Spain’s political adversaries. Mr. Spain is hoping to dump Mr. Premo and turn the office over to the Republicans or whomever Mr. Premo runs with.
As for Town Clerk Connolly, there are at least two candiates expressing an interest in a run against her with Democrats and Republicans alike anxious to help. More on this later.
The North Greenbush Pipeline will be listening for the whispers coming from the elephant dinner and report them to you.

This guy Desso is a tough sell to say the least. You should look deeper into the case in Troy involving a young woman he allegedly sexually assualted. Find out why she was afraid to testify.
Maybe Rogers can check with the Troy cops that handled the case?
I know Mr. Rogers may be interested in running but he has told me, the rest of the ticket will make a difference in his decision, which I assume means there are some he will not partner with.
Great news! I'm happy there are others people out there interested in running for town clerk. We need someone with some new ideas in that office. Sometimes, people stay in the same position for too long and just get stagnant. There's so much that could be done in that position with some new blood shaking things up.
Yes, we've all had enough of Katie Connoly. Its time to clean house and you can't do that by leaving the fox at the front desk of the snake house.
WOW!!! There are actually people willing to run against our "do-nothing" clerk?
Heaven help them. None of the parties in this town have the courage to back them, in my opinion. And if he does manage to get an endorsement, her family will manage to destroy him. Big Brother Tom will see to that. Get the chief to arrest him for drunk driving... accuse him of a crime....attack him as a degenerate... it has all been done before.
Still, I admire anyone who has the courage to run against her. That person will have my vote!
I was under the impression that FELON cannot hold public office,am I wrong?
